Ignacio obtained his MSc in Physics at the University of Chile, Santiago, where he graduated with Maximum Distinction. He finished his PhD in Mathematics at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, in 2017 where he proposed and developed a stochastic model to study the bias to a cyclic motion of optically trapped indium phosphide nanowires. He then worked as a Data Scientist at Fulcrum3D, an Australian weather forecasting company with a focus on renewable energy. In 2019 he joined the University of the Balearic Islands as a Postdoctoral Researcher and a collaborator in the ChipAI Project. Dr Ortega has been awarded with the UNSW International Postgraduate Award, the UNSW School of Mathematics Top-up Award and the Becas Chile Scholarship. His research interests include nonlinear optics, stochastic modelling, bifurcation analysis and random walks.
