Oreste was born in Tres Arroyos, Argentina, at the heart of the best food supply for mankind. He studied at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata from which he also got his PhD working on the chaotic behavior of nonlinear relaxation oscillators. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Chicago for two years and a Senior Scientist at both Brookhaven Nationa Lab (for another year) and at Queen Mary, University of London for another two. His main area of expertise is Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, and he have applied this knowledge to a broad range of problems in different fields, such as biology and biophysics, fluid dynamics both at the laboratory and geophysical scales, electronics, quantum physics, etc. Some of the specific problems that he is currently interested in are the role of fluid dynamics in embryology and development, the motion of small particles organisms in fluids, the dynamics of hearing and the behavior of excitable systems and media in nature.
